Financial Literacy in Schools: A Milestone That Benefits Everyone
Portugal took a historic step by approving mandatory financial literacy in schools.

On July 8, Portugal took a historic step by unanimously approving mandatory financial literacy education in schools.
This measure represents much more than a curriculum change; it is a recognition that knowing how to manage money, understanding the financial system, and making conscious decisions are essential skills for life in society. Preparing young people for the future inevitably involves giving them tools that allow them to understand the world around them, and financial literacy is one of those tools.
At nBanks, this news was received with enthusiasm. We have believed from day one that financial literacy should be accessible to everyone and not a privilege reserved for those who already master the jargon or have training in the area. It was with this vision that we created the Avança! Program, a project designed to empower companies, institutions, and individuals with simple, clear, and transparent access to their financial reality. The goal is to help transform our relationship with money so that it is more conscious, more informed, and, above all, more balanced.
Even without being actively present in classrooms, nBanks' impact on this collective journey is real. Through the aggregation of financial data, support for behavioral analysis, and the promotion of autonomy in financial management, we create the conditions for more people, both within and outside companies, to make informed choices. Our work naturally contributes to the same goal that is now entering the education system: to promote a more informed, more capable, and more resilient society.
This new law is a milestone. But it is also a starting point. Profound change only happens when different agents such as schools, businesses, the technological sector, and civil society act together. And it is in this spirit of collaboration that we will continue to work, aware that when everyone better understands their money, we all win.
